Best Buy will start price matching Amazon.com March 3rd

Best Buy has been showing decreased profits over the last year due to a new trend called “Show-Rooming”. (Show-Rooming is when a customer comes into a brick and mortar business’ show-room and looks at the physical product to see what they want, and then turns around and buys it cheaper at an online retailer)  Well, apparently Best Buy is sick of show-rooming customers and is just going to start price matching big online retailers like Amazon.com,  Newegg.com, and TigerDirect.com.  This is a big thing for us GCOs, because we would have the added benefit of being able to physically see these products and get them for cheap TigerDirect prices.  Not to mention the shipping charges we’ll be saving on.  Also, when that graphic card or power supply fails in your computer, you don’t have to wait a day or 2 to get it from one of the online retailers you can just go to your local Best Buy and get them to price match the online retailer.  I’ve also found a compiled list of the Online-Retailers that  Best Buy will be matching.

Here’s a list of confirmed online retailers they will be price matching at the launch of the new policy

  1. Terry Costello says:

Best Buy in Canada has been doing this very successfully since July of last year. Consumers still have an affinity to see/touch this type of product (consumer electronics) prior to purchase; however, the economy has conditioned us all to be extremely cost conscious, at the same time.
Best Buy has now taken this step to secure both ends of the service/price spectrum for the consumer. The support of Geek Squad cannot be matched by any On-line or other traditional retailer, for that matter. With Price now easily matched, anywhere, for 30 days I might add, their future while still challenged with compressed margins and lack of recent product development from vendors, is much more secure.
