Update: I’ve now gotten the day 1 patch and alot of the issues appear to have been handled. Graphics still seem a little shoddy on the PC and you can still see alot of glaring indicators that its a console port. I’m now back to playing it and should have the review out by the end of the week. Right now I’ve had to move on to getting my Space Marines review done.
Update 2: LAN MULTI-PLAYER on PC is borked. I tried for hours for me and a friend to find each other on a LAN Game to no success. Apparently a lot of people are having this issue. Damn it guys I would have just preferred you delayed the PC release to get this stuff fixed before releasing. Apparently Console players are happily gaming away thou. Deep Silver is aware of the issue and is working on it vigilantly. (I’ve been following their twitter pretty closely)
Update 3: I’ve done my review of Dead island and I also show How to LAN Dead Island properly.
Original Story Below:
I have waited desperately for this game. I’ve had it pre-ordered on steam since its been available. Within 3 hours of playing, I put it down disgusted. I then say to myself, “This is has got to be a developer copy or something, clipping is mapped to Y?” The bugs were out of control, I lost my inventory 2 times, and I ended up fighting a boss with absolutely nothing.
I started doing some research and found that I was not the only extra irate on these issues. I also found this statement released by Deep Silver to Ars Technica that was having similar issues.
“We deeply regret that an incorrect version of Dead Island was inadvertently made available to players on Steam launch in North America. We are very sorry for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game—the correct, patched version will be made available to North American players ASAP. Other territories are not affected by this situation, the fully patched game will be available on Friday as announced.”
I was planning to review this game for everyone today but I think I’m going to hold off until this debacle is straighten out. Guess I really should consider doing more console reviews.
We have several copies on the PS3 and plan to pick up a few more.
The same Zombie Killing fun that you find in Left 4 Dead but with way more depth. Upgradable weapons, lots of melee combat, a skill tree, each character has their own specialties as well.
Looking forward to the massive amount of DLC that is sure to follow this awesome new release.
The Steam version was patched yesterday and they apologized for releasing a dev build. Pretty scary that they flubbed that badly, but here’s to hoping the new version is much better!
