headsets or audio chairs
« on: May 29, 2011, 02:15:50 PM »
I visited an xbox only lan center where each station had turtle beach Ear Force X11 headsets at each station.  The tvs had no sound coming out but you could hear the game through the headsets.  Having a quality headset was pretty nice and it seemed like a good way to keep customers from messing with the volumes.  On the downside I had to be wearing the headset if I wanted to hear both the game and my friend at the same time.

Clearly you dont have to have either audio chairs or headsets but I was wondering what everyone's opinion might be on this alternative.

I always did headsets.  Never tried audio chairs.  Only station I didn't do a Headset on were Suites.

But I was primarily PC too.

Both have their ups and downs.

Headsets work great for the PC's. We get them as cheap as we can $10 for some behind the neck headsets from amazon that are actually pretty comfortable. I can lose a $10 headset and not cry. Deeds didn't you rent NICER headsets to the customers that wanted them?

Audio chairs have a coolness factor I guess because not EVERYONE has one at home? But the power and audio cables can be a real hassle. We've even sold some of ours because 1. we had too many and 2. We can get them WAY cheaper than any where else they search for them. I've also started buying and selling different brands and models of audio chairs as another source of income. For the price we paid the quality was very lacking. For a few dollars more we could have had a better quality chair. Do your research on which ever you decide to use. You'll want to physically be able to touch and test anything you plan to buy a great number of. Don't count on ANYONE in sales to be honest with you. Put your hands on it and judge for yourself.

Was just reminded of these headsets today:
Koss SB49

They are about $30, but they have a lifetime warranty.  Do pretty much anything to them, drop the pieces into a box with a $6 check, and they will ship you a new pair.

RSteele, where are you getting your audio chairs that you could resell them for profit?

I checked all my AV sources and no luck.

We have started this discussion recently and so far we feel: 1) cheap sets at all stations with 2) upgrades available for rent. Considering a couple of decent audio chairs as first come first serve to test the waters and for resale potential.

If Joan is still there let her know who sent you and you might get a good price. I guess it depends it on how many you plan to buy as well. We weren't informed enough on the different models of the chairs and went with their basic model. About 4 months in some started to have small rips or tears. The power cords that come with the chairs are not good at all and the audio cables aren' t long enough. We get the Audio cables from Home Depot now 15' for like $5-$6 and the power cables come from china they are a bit shorter and require plug in's be closer but accidents happen and we have to replace a few plugs every 6 months or so.

I think we ended up paying around $120-$130 per chair and after using them for over a year I can get that back out of even the damaged ones. We bought these THROUGH another company that marked them up considerably.

If I had it to do again these would have been the chairs we would have started with. They set up a little straighter, they have more stitching and seem sturdier over all.

Heard good things about these chairs too.

I've also bought and sold smaller gaming chairs from ebay, craigslist, ect. People look to unload used chairs for $25-$75 depending on condition and quality. I buy them put them in the store and once the customer tries our larger ones if they don't purchase a big one I can offer them other options at lower prices and still turn a decent profit.

Well speaking of chars, for those who don't do audio chairs. Do you use rolling office chairs, fixed feet?
