« on: July 28, 2010, 08:20:32 PM »
Starcraft II just came out and I haven't gotten it yet...probably couldn't load it with out learning some stuff first anyway.

But over the next few months there are A LOT of games coming out. I've jotted a few down any info on any of these games would be awesome. I'm familiar with the bigger named titles. It looks to me like there are a lot of titles going from PC to Multi- platform too.

Civilization 5              09/21/10 (Showcase from I games I think)

The guys over at DreamGCS have the loader prebuilt, tested and running in several game centers. https://dreamgcs.com/site/shop/category/game-loaders I just mention it because it has saved a lot of people a lot of headache. I do not mean this as a cold sales post, I just think anything that can help the game center owners out there get this cash cow out faster to their customers the better. Our friends at iLANca as well as iGames have pointers I am sure to also help get this going. Good luck this is a real boon for a lit of centers in the last 48 hours. =)

I'm not sure what systems I want them on I mean Halo Reach will be a 360 game for sure so I have to pick and choose try to keep them balanced out. I sort of have to split them up we have so many fans of both systems.
Lucky for me they aren't too hard core abut which system they play on.
I've got some guys here now doing a tournament they set up on Fifa World Cup South Africa on the Xbox and when they aren't playing that they're on Backbreaker and Uncharted 2 on the PS3.

I'll check that loader out. I'm sure we'll end up getting a few copies of the game just not sure when I'll be able to do it. I'm here alone for the next 5 days. The woman is taking a cruise...and feels guilty about leaving me here alone...and hasn't even left yet. I told her I got it under control but beside changing games, and working the counter I try not to leave the front of the store too much when it's just me.

We have stock if you need it. =)

Are your prices competitive to other retail locations since people buy in bulk or not really since most games are new? I know normally from what I have found a new game seldom sells to retailers for less than $3.00 of retail price. So I was not sure if you may have had a better distributor or not.

How about used games you keep those in stock for game ceners too or just the new games?

Hey, how you enjoying running your business? Is it exactly what you expected in the line that it is fun, not as fun, easier than expected, or harder than expected? Just kind of curious. I always enjoy seeing what people's thoughts are from their businesses that they start compared to what they talked about before the doors were ever opened.

Our prices are competitive with retail and yes the margins are as slim as $1-$3 per copy off of retail for the most part. Our contract customers get most games before street and far below retail and our non-contract customers can still save a little cash off of retail prices going through us.

Yes we do stock used games for PC and consoles and have direct refurb suppliers for consoles and accessories too. We even sell SmartLaunch licenses at a discounted rate to all customers.

It's not really that complicated on the business end it's like anything else I've done. Try to treat people the right way and Being honest and fair isn't hard to do.

I wish we had gotten a bigger jump on advertising. I mean we sort of did this rapidly so we didn't have a lot of time anyway.
I love the fact that I get new people in the store daily and they all seem to have very positive things to say and the people are so vastly different from one another as are their games of choice.

I wish I had more experience with computers as far as programming and that sort of thing but the rest of it is pretty easy actually.
I've enjoyed every moment from putting the website together to painting the walls and doing the floor plan. My favorite thing has just been meeting all of these people on the business end and customers.

What is your experience with computers right now? Do you have any basic knowledge in setting lan or just commun knowledge like you can earn by playing with computer and reading forum?

I can figure out most connection problems I've always done the set up at home. I can for the most part do anything that I can see a step by step process on. Lots of times if someone is trying to show me or tell me how to do it I pick it up pretty quickly.

I can take pretty much anything apart and put it back together without much hassle. I've always just been able to figure things out as I went along. I don't see this as being any different. The knowledge exists someone else has done it no reason why I can't learn how to do it as well. I'm surrounded by people that know great amounts about computers and networking. Jen's dad teaches and writes programs for the military here and she has several other friends and family involved in the tech field in some way. (A cousin studying at Georgia Tech, a friend that works for a large company doing IT work.)

Anything I feel that I can't handle I have resources that can. The way our network is set up isn't really complicated at all the most I've had to do is check cable connections and reset the connections after a power outage. Besides that it's been pretty flawless. We've got connections in many different areas one of here sisters works at a local radio station, the other one worked for public relations for a local minor league sports teams and has connections with various businesses in town.

lol. I like your idea, Deeds. I appreciate these forums they sure leave a lot of room to learn and prepare to open a lan center. Thanks for the info, Myth and Rsteele. I try my best to keep getting more and more from the better educated than I.
