Disc Repair Machines
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:32:01 PM »
I get customers that need or want discs repaired so after using the cheap $20 buffers for a while I finally stepped up and ordered a JFJ Easy Pro.

It was the next step up at $130 on Amazon. The "industrial" single arm model is $500 or a little more. Once this one pays for itself I'll look at getting the bigger one if needed.

Sometimes the smaller buffers just can't get out the deeper more sever scratches. I really want to focus more on repairs and hire someone to work the front counter on the LAN center side.

I think that was the one that was on Bozack's blog...e-bash game center owner.  Or maybe I saw in related videos...it's all a big blur now with 100's of research links in my bookmark organizer =).

This works out good for us, the people at Game Stop send them to us all of the time to get their discs cleaned.  We have the double arm models at each of our locations.  Since our consoles are out in the area, we get quite a few scratched games.  The machine has paid for itself.

Disc repair is on our list of services but I haven't started checking around on pricing.

What is the average charge for disc repair?

How many per day/week/month are done on average?

We will be charging $5 per disc if the have a lot to do maybe discount it.
I see 5 to 10 a week right now not counting my own discs that sometimes need a little buff.

I see more and more on the service/repair side of the store. The repairs we do are all pretty much profi.

We just make them buy a drink while they wait.  It works good just as advertising and a way of offering community service.

If we did charge, $5 is right on target, I would not go any lower.

I charged 3 bucks for disc repair cause I picked up a fancy buffer at a liquidation sale for local video/game store extremely cheap.  The buffing solution was pretty pricy thou.

Charging $3 per disc if they have more than 5. If they have less than 5 it's $5 each.

The sand paper isn't too expensive, but the solution and buffer pads aren't cheap.

The pictures below are of a pretty scuffed up disc before and after. This was 20 seconds of the soft paper and 2 minutes with the first buffer solution. I'm impressed.

After
