Introductions are in order
« on: January 03, 2012, 09:40:49 PM »
I've been a lurker on this forum for quite some time and have decided to finally post a little bit about myself.  I am 30 years old and have been happily married for 3 and a half years.  I hope to have kids soon as it has always been a goal of mine to be a husband and a father.  I'm halfway there! :)

As you can imagine, I've also decided that I've had it with lousy managers and ineffective companies that hire me out in exchange for a part of my soul that dies a little each time.  I've always wanted to run my own business in order to have the means available to take care of my family first and foremost.  I believe that the stars have finally aligned and have granted me the opportunity of starting my own lan center.  I look forward to this with great anticipation as I've always been business minded.

That being said, I feel like I already know a bit about a lot of you.  I'm meeting with my investors and bank in the next week and a half and hope to have my center up and running within a few months.  You guys are an invaluable resource that have helped me greatly these past few months in preparing my business plan, and what I can and cannot realistically achieve.  That being said, I give a hearty thanks to all that contribute to these forums.

I will be honest in saying that I am planning a trip to some successful entertainment centers in the United States for the last bit of my research before plunging into my own.  I would love it if I could meet with some of you who have shared their successes on the forums here in person and visit your location to share ideas and get a bit more feedback and answers.  You have been a tremendous inspiration to my plans.

Well, I don't want to take up too much of your time and I'll leave this short.  It's been a pleasure to learn so much from you and I look forward to working alongside you in the same type of business.  Long live gaming communities!

Welcome!

Let us know where you plan to head to visit existing LANs, we can probably make some recommendations.

I would love to have recommendations.  There are a few on the boards I would like to visit, although I think Level Up is probably highest on the list simply due to his being setup not too long ago, and his design layout is fairly similar to what I'm thinking towards.  At least, from what I've seen so far anyways.  Planning is pretty fluid.

We're all for visitors!! John comes to see me every so often bringing BAWLS on his way to his other store in Columbus, GA. We talk shop and just have a good ole time.

We're also getting ready to do our first round of renovations. Adding in more space for people to plug in their own PC's/systems and maybe a printer/copy machine too.

We went from planning to open for business in 3 months. If you have the funds lined up work and focus is all it takes.  Now once we actually got opened then we adjusted and changed what needed to be in order for it to be more fluid and still adjust and adapt on occasion.

Sorry it has been a while since I've written anything on these boards, but the past few weeks have been... tumultuous to say the least.  I'll keep it fairly simple.  We lost a lot of our initial collateral due to a freak string of events that have left my wife and I quite winded.  We are currently in the process of moving due to some of these events.  Long story short, it does not look like we are anywhere near being able to get this off the ground in the near future.

I'm very sad.  I was extremely excited for the prospect to begin my own business and in an area that I really enjoy.  I guess it just wasn't in the cards.  That being said, we still aren't sure where we are moving just yet, and as such I would still like to do something to keep me going in the direction that will allow me to start this venture in the future.  I feel like I can learn a lot from many of you and I am willing to offer my services and experience if anyone is interested.  If any of you are looking for an extra pair of hands or even someone to help open up a new store with you, I'd be glad to help and get my feet wet until fortune favors us once again.

If not, no worries.  Life has an interesting way of teaching life lessons in the most unusual of ways.  I'm sure we'll get there one day.  In the mean time, I suppose it will be back to lurking from time to time until things start to fall back into place.  I wish you all the best in your business(es) and am glad to know you.  You are all a great inspiration and I can't wait until I can join your ranks as a proud business owner!

Cheers,
-Zaq
