Our Oldest Customer Ever
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:55:49 PM »
I just repaired a PS3 for an elderly gentleman. I'd say he was mid to late 70's. Likes sports games. His friend that drove him here was around the same age and prefers fighting games on the PS2. They were awesome to talk to. Talked about the old Atari days, the friend has a grandson that started his interest in the PS2 games.

They were really cool guys to talk to getting that generation's view on games is a lot different than talking to the younger crowd of course compared to them we are all in the younger crowd.

These guys were the oldest but I've had plenty of 50+ repair customers they don't tend to play here but they are definitely out there and definitely playing.

Well Atari is the one of the oldest I remembered. He talked about something magnavox put out that was a dot on the screen I'm guessing it's this:

The dude was OLD. I just thought it was cool that he was playing on the PS3. They even talked about the next generation of consoles. Again I didn't think people that age kept up with this stuff. A lot of the parents 20 to 40 somethings have no clue what games are like these days. To see someone that advanced in age that was current and knew their stuff was impressive.

Yeah...back in the olden times when controllers was a paddle with a rotary wheel.  Man, I do feel old now.  But hey, my father-in-law in his 60's stays on top of all of the latest PC trends and games...although he's never played the latest console games he always has fun when my son does.  I think there is a disconnect for some not with the technology...but with the interface.  Some people can't keep up with the controller trends.  I think some of the motion-based controlling (Kinect, Move, Wii) has started bridging the gap once again to make gaming more about the player...and not the interface.

I am 54 and play computer games everyday.  I started with a vic 20.  My oldest customer was in his late 70's.  He came in with his girl friend for a Shayia event.  They both had high level accounts and wanted the code we gave away.  While they were here they help several people get started in the game.  The man had started a gaming computer business way back when.  He sold it for enough to retire on.
