steam and auto updating.
« on: December 23, 2011, 06:26:52 PM »
= annoying.   Especially TF2, why the hell are they updating this game daily .. so it seems.

Anyway, is there a quick way to stop steam updating 'ALL' games in 1 go.  I know you can single disable updates for 1 game at a time, but that's ridiculous after installing a good 30 games from the program.

Id rather nothing updates until I close the center, then I just set something to enable all updates.
( not that im open yet, next week though, but already getting annoyed seeing these constant steam updates )

Any way around this?

I believe most places try to just log in and let steam update when they can. I have step kids that I make play on different PC's (almost daily) so all of our steam accounts seem to stay updated.

It is a pain, but for the cost and the number of games you get access to it's a necessary evil.

We have a script system that will log into steam every set interval on the server.  And every time the clients start up they check to see if files need to be updated, and then copy them down from the local server instead of downloading.  It isn't perfect, it still has to copy the entire gcf (sometimes ~3GB), and it stalls out every now and then, but it does take away a lot of the annoyance.

Anyone run across this little annoyance:  though I know most of you don't use deep freeze

Problem is that after a system reboot, a station 'may' need to have its steamcybercafe password entered, it just won't save, even though deep freeze was set as frozen on next restart, while being logged into steam.

This appears to be the only thing deep freeze isn't keeping up to. Its word.

It  isn't consistant either, another reboot and the password must have kept as steam is logged_in fine.  Each computer has its own dedicated steam I'd, as its only 10 PC's, so its not a case of the I'd already being in_use by another PC at the center.

Never had that issue because I always used steam in conjuction with license management so I never knew whether it was freezing the password in or not.

Cafe accounts are designed to not save the password.  Accounts that are not part of the cafe program should save the password fine.

I also use Cybercafepro , when I hear most of the people running businesses go with SmartLaunch
I like CCP, free and still has lots of options.

I haven't been able to get Cyber Cafe Pro to launch due to some sort of port/server problem.

Yea, the devs have run into a server issue with ccp this week causing new users to be unable to start, I had to just do a small temp fix to contine using it as their server issue was causing ppl's own ccp servers to hang.   Overall I am real happy with the program

It depends on where you live apparently.  Here in the US it appears to be $5/month/per seat.  Their customer base isn't taking it well at all though, so we'll see how well that works out.

Does anyone have a decent size 'steam cybercafe' type logo that would be good to print out?  Haven't found anything but small logos for it on the net so far.

(decent size as in the size of a normal A4 sheet, or a bit smaller doesnt matter either)   or bigger of course heh.

thx

I just have a small one from our website...

You might be able to stretch it further without too much trouble or distortion.
