« on: September 22, 2010, 11:18:04 PM »
Have any of you or own a subscription to the Valve Cyber Cafe Program?  Is it worth it to you or not?

Worth it and then some with the iGames discount and if you pay for a year in advance you can get the cost down some more.
270 something games everything from Team Fortress 2 to Dynomite and other pop cap games, Left for Dead, lots of shooters and cool games.
It's pretty easy to use even for a computer noob like me. We've only got 13 accounts and probably only use 10 of them on a regular basis but compared to what you would spend on 2 or 3 computer games per PC you get access to a lot more.

question about that, I know with regular valve, you need to download and install everygame you want to play.

But with the Cyber Cafe program, do you need to install everygame on each computer?

Yes but not really...

You download all the games you want to 1 PC make an image from that then put that image on the rest of your PC's. If we only add 1 or 2 games then I just download them to the PC's instead but once you have that image you can use it for the others. If you internet connection is fast you can download 1 or 2 faster than you can reimage the PC.
Civ V was like 5500Mb I think it took about 30 mins to download 4 PC's at a time.

I figured it was going to, but Valve wouldn't give me any info without a business address. :)

https://cafe.steampowered.com/

I think with igames and year in advanced discounts we got it down to like $90 per seat per year. I'm guessing if you want I'll go back and look at the emails and tell you exactly but $90 is pretty close. STEAM is just easy to use.

The Steam Cafe license is key, in some places that is all they offer. With a couple of hundred titles to fit all kinds of styles and levels of gameplay it can help attract crowds you never knew you could. it is definitely worth the money, but the headache and the updates are sometime a little much for certain setups to handle.

Breathing life in to this thread for a good reason.

Portal 2 just released $49.99 on Steam. 12 copies since we have 12 PC's would have run close to $600. Since we're members of the Cafe Program...every steam cafe account gets it for FREE. Of course each steam account costs per year but the number of games is right around 275...Plus you get a premium titles like Portal and Portal 2, L4D and L4D2.
