Smart Launch and certain games
« on: December 21, 2011, 06:44:56 PM »
Has anyone using smart launch foudn solutions to the following problems:

* Dawn of War 2 requires a Windows Live login, how do you automate this or remove this?
* What is the setup for using Origins and Battlefield 3?
* What is the setup for using Origins and Star Wars The Old Republic?
* How do you setup Star Craft 2 to allow the game to work automatically and not require the player to use there own login, but use ours instead.

I think all of these have similar issues. I need a solution for managing logins to secondary accounts. :)

thanks

Nate

You don't its free for your customer to setup their own account to use with it.  GFWL sucks

No Experience with this game

Use it the same way you would WoW...I've got this game and I don't have to log into origin

You'll need a script probably one made by autoit.  I think DGCS has one for sale.

We do indeed :) We have one for both SC2 and BF3/Origin.  We also have a solution for GFWL, but it is clunky, and still subject to activation limitations.  I encourage people to boycott GFWL games, and tell your customers why you don't have them.

SW:TOR does not require Origin to play the game, only to buy it, so you're good there.

I'm getting a customer to bring in their disc for Starwars to get the client on to my PC's. I haven't seen a place to DL the client yet.

The client is self-loading like all MMOs, you just need the launcher exe and it will grab the whole game.

GFWL is "Games For Windows Live", which is Microsoft's attempt to bring their Xbox Live functionality to the PC, along with proprietary DRM.  It fails, hard.

ok, what about the scripts? Where do I get them and how do we use them? How do we get Dawn of War 2 working with Steam?

DoW2 requires steam to work. Installing it requires nothing special. Getting the GFWL logins to move from PC to PC is the trick.  It's annoying and bass-awkward to get working. Not worth it IMO.

We are a game store with a big warhammer 40k following and I already bought the 10 copies of DoW. I like to get it working. How do I do it? Also, how do I get the scripts working? Is this something someone provides?

Get with alomax and he'll set you up with the script for SC2 (This is a Paid script now,(bright side is if you buy from Alomax we are talking about commissions and he'll give a commission to salc thus helping me keep the website free) it automates the login where smartlaunch fails) ...And DoW2 never had an issue with it beyond setting up basic steam license management.  Might have changed with all the expansions but I doubt it..  Rsteele would probably be the best option for setting up a non-cyber cafe game for steam in smart launch or maybe this article will help: http://startalancenter.com/smartlaunch-adding-steam-games-not-included-in-the-cafe-program

We do not have an issue with SC2.  This must be an issue with "house accounts".  We just leave SC2 for those that have their own account.  The ones that don't can play LoL or HoN, they are free.

What about save games for user profiles? Right now Smart Launch is moving steam accounts around based on account priority. How do we properily setup up our saved games to user profiles? Can we have steam save progress outside of steam? Can a profile pull up a saved game for a specific user from their account?

Steam saves accounts in a username-specific directory, usually. Depending on the game it will also save in either mydocs or the steam save

In most scenarios I didn't even bother with PUFs (Personal User Files).  Most user just tried to get on the system they used in the past.  And all just seemed to work out.

Alot of people have spent numerous hours and time to work out how to make PUFs transfer from PC to PC and so on and it all is really a big headache, for something that maybe works 1/3rd of the time.

PUFs do not work in SL 4.5.  We have given up on PUFs.
