The Plunge. The great decision in your life that you 100% believe that you can make a living through your own skills as your own boss. It is hands down one of the most rewarding and scariest experiences you will have in your life.
I’ve got several Prospective Game Center Owners working with me here lately. And one thing that keeps coming up from several of these PGCOs, is what do I do if it fails. What do I do if I don’t make enough money to meet my bills. What DO I DO?
My answer is always the same, “What if you die tomorrow, what the hell does it matter? You won’t know unless you try. Don’t be a coward, but don’t be stupid.” It’s hard to make that first step for a lot of people into entrepreneurship It’s a scary thing. I wasn’t scared my first time because I was too damn young and stupid to know what the hell I was risking at the time. But, then again I had a support system that would have beat the hell out of me if I didn’t succeed or go out in a blaze of glory from trying.
Some reasons you probably should stay away from being an entrepreneur are as follows:
- You can’t seem to work for someone else without getting fired (If you can’t meet someone else’s expectations to make a business succeed, how are you going to start your own)
- You don’t want to work for anyone but yourself (This is a lie, business owners work for the government, no matter what you do, you are playing by someone’s rules)
- You always did bad in school fundraisers, Mom and Dad ended up buying your box of chocolate so you didn’t look the loser. (You didn’t have the initiative then, why do you now?)
- You want to be rich (Sadly most business owners never get rich, we might live comfortably but when all the things you own are in your companies’ name it’s not really yours is it?)
Things change and even if you did answer yes or fell into one of the above categories, you can still succeed but you’ve gotta truly understand your own motivations and what you plan to get out of this business, and be willing to sacrifice to get it.
After all that I just said, ignore it. It makes no difference honestly. How do you take the Plunge? You just do it. You won’t know what you can or can’t do till your try it.
Prepare, breath, and do it.
